2017 Wrap-Up!

I've got to admit that 2017 was a great year. I finished Esthetician school, passed my state boards to get my Esthetician license, and left my 8-year-career to pursue my passion and start my own business-it's pretty awesome to be ending this year feeling so much optimism for 2018!

One of the most important lessons I learned during 2017 is that it's important to make time to be quiet with my thoughts and feelings. During a difficult conversation with someone very close to my heart, I questioned some of their decisions and their response was, "this is what happiness looks like for me." That statement really struck me and caused a shift in my mindset about what I'm doing with my life. It's so easy to let other people tell you what you should or shouldn't be doing and to let others tell you who to be, but we define our own happiness. I am where I am because of my choices, attitudes, and decisions, and I get to choose where I go and who I am in the future.

With that being said, I've chosen to take my Esthetics and Makeup Artistry business in a slightly different direction, beginning with a name change to Fresh Skincare Studio. I wanted to have a business name that truly reflected the character and nature of my business. I've also made a difficult decision to move to a different business location. I loved my first space so much and I learned a lot from my peers, but I'm also very excited to have more space and to be able to offer more services!

I hope that 2017 was a good year for all of you as well! Now, on to the 2017 favorites!!!!!

Stila Giltter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow ($24 Sephora): This is my favorite favorite favorite product of 2017! It's so easy to apply and the glitter is really pigmented and it doesn't get all over the place! Whenever I'm getting ready and I'm short on time, I just add a little of this glitter and it looks like I spent way more time getting ready than I actually did! I love this stuff!

Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer ($39 Sephora): In spite of my meticulous skincare routine, I still have some struggles with large pores and some acne scarring and this product does a fabulous job of smoothing out my skin! I know it's a little pricey for a primer, but it truly creates a smooth and flawless surface for my foundation. A great trick is to set this primer with powder!

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($38 Sephora): This powder is amazing. It absorbs oil, keeps my makeup in place, and doesn't settle in to my fine lines-it's worth the $38 bucks! I used to use Rimmel Stay Matte, which was okay, but isn't cruelty free. A friend suggested this powder and, although I cringed at the cost, I'm converted. I've had my powder for three months so it lasts a long time!

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips ($14 Ulta): I friggin' love this product! I've tried a lot of highlighters in my day, but I always come back to this! I have very pale skin and oftentimes highlighters are too gold for me, but this is a nice cool-tone highlight with lots of shimmery! I also love that part of the shimmer strip has really pretty bronze shades and that all of the colors can also be used as eyeshadow!

Wet 'n Wild Photo Focus Foundation ($4 Target): Y'all...I've tried a lot of foundations this year-Tarte, Urban Decay, Too Faced, etc., etc., and I still go back to my $4 foundation! It's blendable, builds to full coverage, wears comfortably, and lasts really well-I mean what more could I want?! I'm all about investing in quality products, and that includes my four bucks on this awesomeness!

Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist ($15 Target): I've been a fan of Urban Decay's All Nighter setting spray for years-until I tried this! The fixing mist has rose water and green tea, plus it's free of parabens and half the cost of other setting sprays! Plus, it does it's job-my makeup stays on all day and looks fab!

Sonia Roselli Japanese Cleansing Oil ($42 Amazon): OMG-this is sooooo wonderful! It takes off all makeup (including all my long wear, waterproof products), it's non-comedogenic (pore-clogging), and it makes my skin feel great! I love to use this as the first step in my evening routine and I'll be adding it to my treatment room this year!

Skin Script Tri-Peptide Eye Serum ($30): So, I love the regular Peptide Serum for my dark circles (which are much lighter now!), but I also love this serum! It's super hydrating which is awesome since there's zero humidity in Colorado. The extra moisture makes my eye skin happy and plumps up my eye area to conceal my eye wrinkles. Plus, it's affordable. I love it!

Jergen's Wet Skin Moisturizer ($6 Target): I have super dry skin and I'm always running late, so this product has been amazing! You just put some on before you get out of the shower and gently towel-dry and done! No waiting for my lotion to sink in so I can put on jeans! It's amazing! It also smells great, and of course, is cruelty-free!

Big Sexy Hair Full Bloom ($20 Ulta): This product smells great and gives me great volume! I have very fine and thin hair and this gives the illusion that I have more hair than I actually do! I love to use it as a root booster! The product is intended to help you extend your shampoo so that you don't need to wash your hair as often, but I'm still guilty of washing my hair daily.

Phew, there really were some awesome products in 2017! I'm really excited about everything I learned, the new people who came into my life, the friendships that blossomed, and the direction my life has taken! I hope that 2018 brings you growth, joy, and love!
